Event notes

What was your learning journey like?

Started in 2021 - videos from YouTube, materials online

Did not have 1on1 tutor or coach

This year July, came across EntryLevel - was like “wow”

  • Read testimonials
  • Reviews online
  • Everyone was sharing certificate
  • What caught my attention was portfolio

It was so cheap I was doubting

  • But went through LinkedIn reviews
  • Saw other trainings for much more expensive

Did the tasks in the course - it was challenging

  • But luckily there was a Discord community to ask questions

At the end of the course, you’ll be able to create your portfolio

  • There’s even a template for that

The deadline made me submit my portfolio and tasks

Have to be very consistent

You need to do a self-assessment before taking a course

  • Is this course right for me?
  • Does it align with my goals?

Portfolio

  • After submission, I put portfolio link in my CV
  • Used this to stand out
  • Grateful for the portfolio

Even if you can’t finish your portfolio, just submit it

  • You can always improve it later

What did you do after EntryLevel?

Shared certificate, recommendation letter on LinkedIn

Created Upwork account

Some people assume they get a job after the course

  • But you need to do some work on your own side

Connect on LinkedIn communities

Wasn’t in search of a job at first

  • Someone referred me

Try freelancing after the course

  • Can even start with internship or volunteer

Shared CV with someone to get the referral

  • Offered to do it to get experience
  • That person shared it with the company

Surround self with tech community

What advice do you have for EntryLevel students?

If you want to dive into tech, do a self-assessment to see which career fits you

Can take EntryLevel’s quiz: https://www.entrylevel.net/quiz

Make Google your friend - learn something new every day

Be ready to learn - keep your desire to learn

Be consistent

Need a laptop, data

Take notes

After the course, how can an entry-level Scrum Master get a job with no prior work experience in the field?

Connect with people on LinkedIn

Freelance on Upwork

Apply to company in intern role

If companies don’t have Scrum Master - email them and say you can help them

Working as a scrum master how has the experience been?

It has been amazing

I had to make a lot of changes to make them more efficient (instead of hour-long meetings)

Used 1 week to observe the company

Then implemented improvements

  • Got positive feedback

Have you ever encountered a scrum master being part of or leading the dev team?

The Scrum Master works with dev, instead of in dev team

If dev team encounters blockers, they bring them to me

Can share those problems with stakeholders

Share your interview experience?

Have not attended interview for Scrum Master role yet

Learned a lot - feel like I’d do well since I learned a lot and have a lot of knowledge

  • Before, I’d have fear in me
  • Now, I have experience
  • That’s why I say sign up on Upwork to have experience, confidence that you can do it

Referral, so no interview

After 1 month, they were impressed, so started paying
